The Benevolent Old Man is a character in Mother, who resides in Magicant. When Ninten or Ana uses Telepathy on the fountain in the northwestern portion of Magicant, the Benevolent Old Man will hear their "soulful cry" and appear in the fountain. When talked to, he asks Ninten if he was the one calling on him, and thereafter asks if he is in need of money. He will then function similar to an ATM, as he will mention the current amount of money in Ninten's bank account, and then let him withdraw a free number of money, as long as it doesn't exceed the amount of money available in his account; money can however not be deposited.
In the Japanese Famicom version, he instead offers to cure party members that have been poisoned or turned into stone. This was however changed in the English prototype and Mother 1+2 port, as complete status healing already is available in Magicant, but ATMs are completely absent.[1]
