Maria (Japanese: マリア Maria) is the wife of George, and great-grandmother of Ninten. According to the beginning of Mother, she and George disappeared in the early 1900's. George returned two years later, but Maria did not. She holds an interesting relationship with the game's primary villain, Giegue, as well as the world of Magicant.

She is a major driving force in the plot of Mother; the Eight Melodies are a song she once sung and the bulk of the plot revolves around learning said melody in Ninten's adventure. It is later revealed that the character Queen Mary is Maria. Template:Stub-character
