Lucas (Japanese: リュカ Lucas) is the protagonist of Mother 3. He also makes appearances in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U as a playable character.
Lucas (Japanese: リュカ Lucas) is a character Mother 3. He is the protagonist lf the game and main playable character of the game starting in Chapter 4. He also makes appearances in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U as a playable character.

Lucas is a timid and shy boy from Tazmily Village, living there for his entire life with his family: his twin brother Claus, father Flint, and mother Hinawa.

Biography
Lucas is a blonde haired boy who wears a red and yellow striped t-shirt, blue shorts, and orange and yellow shoes with white socks. He has black eyes that is sometimes shown to have a blue hue, particularly in the Super Smash Bros. series. His hair is long and curves upwards on his left side.

His appearence is noticeably different from the previous protagonists of the series, Ninten and Ness, who both wear red baseball caps, blue and yellow striped t-shirts, and have black hair.

Personality and other characteristics
At the beginning of the game, Lucas is shown to be a kind and honest boy, although he is also the more timid of the twins. He is seen as being shy and coddled, sometimes shown to be nervous at times, but despite this he enjoys to play.  He is close with his family, primarily, although he does know the other villagers fairly well. He also loves his dog, Boney, and goes out playing and taking walks with him often. Additionally he is also a late riser as shown in the prologue.

During the events of Chapter 1, Lucas is also shown to be weak and very emotional. After the death Hinawa and the disappearances of Claus, Lucas is visibly distraught, and struggles to cope with the losses that he's so abruptly had to endure, to the point where he earns the reputation of being a "crybaby". Duster describes Lucas's feelings as if "his poor little heart is about to break in two". Lucas becomes very shut in, refusing to leave his home after Hinawa's funeral and being unable to sleep. In Chapter 2 he is shown to struggle with guilt due to the disappearance of Claus, as he wishes he had gone with him. At the end of Chapter 3 Lucas finally shows his strength where he hurries to rescue Kumatora, Salsa and Wess from the Pigmasks by calling a Drago to smash their tanks. He learns about the current situation of Tazmily Village, which combined with the losses he endured, he begins to become stronger and mature.

When Lucas has grown up three years later, his personality is different. He is strong, determined, and resourceful, however he is still kind and cares for his family and townsfolk. He still occasionally visits Hinawa's grave, which shows he still misses her, and this is further implemented in Chapter 6 where he tries to reach Hinawa in the sunflower field. He is also somewhat rebellious, as during the three years he refuses to buy a Happy Box. Lucas also shows self-esteem, as a few residents of Tazmily treat him crudely due to his refusal to buy a Happy Box, however Lucas doesn't let this get the better of him. Lucas admits to Kumatora in Chapter 4 that he still wants to become stronger. Following this, he teams up with Duster and Kumatora and bravely pursues any task that comes his way, no matter how frightening it is.

Lucas is described as becoming "more and more gallant." throughout the remaining chapters. Nippolyte even claims that Lucas has "grown so strong that Flint doesn't need to worry anymore", and has "grown up to be a truly good lad.".

The Saturn Valley coffee scene shows that Lucas has grown strong enough to help those he otherwise couldn't. However Lucas still displays glimpses of himself from prior to Chapter 4. He still shows his love for his family, and is still seen to become emotional, as he is stated to want to cry during the final battle with the brainwashed Claus. Nevertheless Lucas has still became a kind, resilient, and brave boy and fights through the odds up to the very end.

In the game's prologue, Lucas is visiting his grandfather, Alec, with his family. He enjoyed the visit a lot, often playing outside in the fresh mountain air with his twin brother and the Dragos. However, in the next chapter, he and his family get lost in the burning Sunshine Forest, and his mother ends up getting attacked and killed by a reconstructed Drago. Lucas and Claus's lives were spared, instead getting pushed into the river and later washing up on the shore and being found by some of the villagers. However, their behavior changed quite a bit with this incident; Lucas became even more shut-in and crying a lot more than usual, while Claus went to avenge his mother and took a knife to slay the Drago. Claus was unsuccessful, however, and ended up getting severely injured and lost in the mountains. Lucas's father, Flint, was struck very hard by both of these tragedies and ended up neglecting Lucas altogether, constantly mourning Hinawa at her grave and searching for Claus in the mountains.
