The Nintendo Entertainment System (Japanese: ファミリーコンピュータ Family Computer, or the ファミコン Famicom), often abbreviated as the NES, is the first gaming system that Nintendo developed. It is a third generation console, as well as a home console. The first Mother game was released for it, thus meaning that the series' roots came from it. The Nintendo Entertainment System gained a successor in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Sales for the Nintendo Entertainment System were high, with games such as Kirby's Adventure, the original Metroid, and Ice Climbers being released on the system. The best selling of the console, though, were Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3. Many games for the Nintendo Entertainment System eventually were released for the Wii's Virtual Console function, and a handful of others were Masterpieces in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Hardware
The Nintendo Entertainment System supported 8-bit graphics, which were better than the graphics of second generation consoles. The Nintendo Entertainment System also supported 2 player games, though Mother didn't have this feature.
Controllers
Failed attachments
The Power Glove was among the failed attachments for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
