Duncan's Factory is a location in EarthBound Beginnings. The factory was founded by Goldrich Duncan in 1969[1], and is known for producing large Bottle Rockets. The factory itself is very large and has a complicated layout. Many robotic enemies are found inside. The factory shares its music with Sweet's Little Factory and the underwater lab in Mt. Itoi, and was remixed in EarthBound for Belch's Base.
Layout
The factory visually resembles Sweet's Little Factory, but is much larger and has a far more complicated layout. There are many ladders either leading to dead ends, rooms containing items, or allow the player to advance. The large bottle rockets are located in the north westernmost part of the factory. The entrance to the factory is in the middle of the third lowest level, from there players can go either to the right or left, reguardless of which direction players go it will eventually reach the room with the Bottle Rocket.
The right half of the factory is simpler as there are fewer dead ends and most ladders advance to the destination. The left half is longer and has more dead ends, but has several more valuable items including Capsules. The two halves eventually meet on the fourth highest level with five ladders, one of which leading to a room containing a Franklin Badge. The ladder farthest to the right will eventually lead to the highest floor which is a long path going west, where at the end is the room containing the Bottle Rocket used to blow up the boulders.
History
Duncan's Factory was first mentioned by Lloyd, saying that they produce large Bottle Rockets. Ninten and Lloyd decide to go to the factory to see the giant rocket in action. On the way, Ninten finds an old Pass. He decides to keep it just in case. The two continue on their way to the factory, and when they approach it, they find a Stray Dog. Ninten, reading the dog's thoughts, can tell that the Pass he found was old and expired, and that they aren't wanted. The dog attacks, but Ninten and Lloyd act as a challenge for it, and falls to loss. The two continue into the factory, and eventually get to the final room. Inside, they find many small launch pads, one of which has a rocket on it. Lloyd fires the rocket, and the rocket destroys the boulder blocking the path to the Union Station.
For clarity, the player cannot name a character Duncan.
