This module is the primary template to use for all files on WikiBound. It has the following function and parameters:

  • Game — List the game the file is from here. If there is no game to attach it to, leave this blank. The game is automatically linked.
  • Description — A short summary of what the file contains, preferably with links. All files must have a description. Files without descriptions can be found at Category:Files without a description.
  • Type — This is the bulk of the work for the template. There are a set list of types that help to categorize what the file contains, in a particular format. Types are categorized in continuation to what game was entered within the Game parameter. The full list of types is the following:
    • artwork — For game artwork, print and digital.
    • animated — For files that are animated—these are typically in GIF format.
    • music — For music files.
    • audio — Files that have audio, but not necessarily music, like voice clips or sound effects.
    • boxart — Box artwork or digital cover artwork.
    • control — Images of controllers, button input icons, or in-game icons for inputs.
    • conceptart — Concept artwork, generally made prior to a game's release and not intended for public circulation.
    • flag — Real-world flags.
    • location — Files where the main focus is to demonstrate a specific location.
    • logo — Text-centric artwork or display.
    • main — Places the file in the game's category. This should be rare to use.
    • mainimage — Places the file in the game images category. This should be rare to use, generally when no other type fits.
    • miiverse — Files of the Miiverse service.
    • map — Self-explanatory.
    • model — 3D models, isolated.
    • merch — Real-world merchandise.
    • promotional — Promotional materials, generally used for advertising or press, made after the game's release.
    • prerelease — Files of the game prior to its release, typically used in trailers or news articles.
    • photo — Image of the real world.
    • person — Image of a real-life person.
    • psi — Image of PSI.
    • rating — Age rating icon, from groups like CERO or the ERSB.
    • scan — Scan of print media, such as books or manuals. These should be done sparingly.
    • screenshot — Screenshot of the game.
    • sprite — Sprites for the game.
    • system — Images of real-world game consoles.
    • render — 3D render, after processing.
    • texture — A flat, large sprite that is applied to surfaces, usually to make backgrounds or walls.
    • user — User file. Must be used in conjunction with the user parameter.
    • template — Files that are used specifically in templates.
    • video — Video files.
    • wiki — Files used for WikiBound itself.
    • wallpaper — Wallpapers, typically used for computer backgrounds.
    • Files that do not properly use a type will be added to Category:Files with invalid types.
  • Meta — Uses the same types above, but will link directly to the type category instead, and does not use the game at all. This is typically done for files that don't appear on the mainspace, such as wiki images, user images, and template images, or types that don't need game like animated.
  • User — Only applies when the user type is used, or when the source is attributed to a different user than the uploader. Only one user can be added here, and will automatically be linked.
  • Source — The origin of the file. Files must have sources in order to meet qualifications for fair use and free licensing. Files without sources will be added to Category:Missing source. Most of the time, files should be linked via URL or with self for captures you personally have taken.
  • License — To change the file's licensing. The default license is "fair use", but can be changed to one of the following:
  • ccbysa10 (CC BY-SA 1.0)
  • ccby20 (CC BY-SA 2.0)
  • ccbysa21jp (CC BY-SA 2.1)
  • ccby25 (CC BY 2.5)
  • ccbysa25 (CC BY-SA 2.5)
  • ccby30 (CC BY 3.0)
  • ccbync30 (CC BY-NC 3.0)
  • ccbyncsa30 (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0)
  • ccbysa30 (CC BY-SA 3.0)
  • ccby40 (CC BY 4.0)
  • ccbysa40 (CC BY-SA 4.0)
  • lgpl (LGPL)
  • pd (Public domain, for someone else's work)
  • pds (Public domain, if you release it)
  • fairuse (Fair use)

The normal template found when uploading is the following:

{{File
|game=
|description=
|type=
|source=
}}

A template with all available parameters is the following:

{{File
|game=
|description=
|type=
|meta=
|user=
|source=
|license=
}}
