Snakes are battle items found in EarthBound. There are three types of snakes: the Snake, Viper and the Snake Bag.

Usage

When used in battle, Snakes deal very little damage (about 1-4), but have a 50% chance of poisoning the target. It has a miss probability of (2*target speed - attacker speed)/250. The Viper does not deal damage, but instead always poisons the target.

The Snake Bag is essentially the same as ths regular Snake, but has an infinite supply of them.

During battle, a snake pops out of the bag and bites the enemy. There are thousands of small snakes living in the bag, so you should be able to use it over and over again. It can possibly poison the enemy, too.

Trivia

  • In the Mother 2 port of Mother 1+2 it is possible to poison Giygas using the Snake or Viper. Doing so will cause Giygas to be defeated without praying as he will be defeated from the poison damage. This does not occur in the SNES version.
