Some consistency-related things

There are just a couple of instances where I'd like to know what would be overall more preferred. First of all, I'm wondering how the pronunciation of the Japanese should be implemented on the pages, as the jptranslation section of the infoboxes obviously are for translation of the names rather than how their Japanese ones are pronounced (I've mainly been using the tt template as for now, though I'd just like to be sure about this, as it wouldn't really be that neat if I ended up adding it to a couple of hundred pages, just to later have to change them again :V).

Then som more minor things that have been sorta subconsciously bothering me. When it comes to character sprites and the like, should their shadows be kept when adding the sprite to the wiki, or be omitted? I've noticed that it's pretty mixed when it comes to this; all of the M3 enemy sprites do for example not have shadows due to the Starmen.net guide having omitted them, while all of the EB ones have. Also, I'm assuming that the size of the sprites preferably would correspond with their in-game appearance, one pixel there equals one pixel here, that is?

And lastly, something ridiculously minor. Should the in-game descriptions for the items and enemies have quotation marks added to them or not? It's pretty even there when it comes to how it has been applied thus far, so I'd like to know whether I should idealize killing them or adding them. =B

That'd be all from nitpicky me. Sun Braid signing out. Sun Braid 21:02, 3 July 2011 (EDT)

Transliteration of Japanese doesn't sound like a bad idea, actually. Though since everything's in hiragana and katakana, which is pretty simple to just use a chart to read it... reading from a tooltip is much easier for someone who doesn't know Japanese and is curious, though. TT-ifying them sounds like the best way to go for this.
As far as sprites go, I think with shadow and their usual size (not 2x or anything) is the best way to go. Though sometimes stuff looks better without the shadow (like I took off the shadow on the Arrow Lizard) eehhh, still- nothing doesn't have a shadow ingame afaik, so that's the way it's supposed to look.
And then for quotation marks, I'd keep them, since it adds clarification that it's a description from the game... →Tinā δ 21:47, 3 July 2011 (EDT)

Catchall template?

Would it be possible to have a color selectable infobox-like template with no specific usage and a few optional rows? It could work out nicely for something that doesn't fit well with any specific template... Multus 23:13, 17 July 2011 (EDT)

I imported Template:Infobox from SmashWiki a while ago for that very reason, though it's kinda a mess to use. Miles (talk) 10:38, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
Yeah. I think I might take some time a little bit later to make a rounded one similar to the ones we use for locations and enemies, if nobody minds I mean. Multus 13:44, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
If you guys think it is appropriate and are interested, we can grab the template system i used on Lylat Wiki and perfected on Wikirby. Tacopill 02:44, 6 August 2011 (EDT).

Dwindling activity

Hello! I am posting here to notify you all that lurk recent changes that I have not abandoned ship! I've been bogged down by drawing and sewing projects and haven't been able to work on the wiki at all. Rest assured, though, I'm still checking this place multiple times every day. However, I do have my priorities, and sadly art comes before editing time. I will have to think of something for you guys to work on-- since everyone always seems to focus on creating new pages instead of expanding the current ones. There's only so much for one to create about three games, after all.

There's always high points of activity and low points of activity, I guess? →Tinā δ 19:42, 3 August 2011 (EDT)

Visiting my dad's, so I really don't have time for the wiki 'til school starts again. Don't worry we're not dead yet. Multus 22:22, 3 August 2011 (EDT)
Unfortunately, I won't be able to edit the wiki much this next month or so. School finals and such are fogging up my schedule and making life difficult. Going to help where I can, though. Multus 20:17, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Merchandise stub?

A stub tag for this should probably be made sometime soon, considering we're getting the manga articles and such up. Multus 23:39, 20 August 2011 (EDT)

[[Template:Stub-reallife]] should cover those, imo. Miles (talk) 00:40, 21 August 2011 (EDT)

Simple question--

Would it be okay for location/character/enemy infoboxes if I put the Japkana and Japtrans as optional to make it look nicer until it's set up correctly? In my opinion, the way we have it now looks somewhat awkward and off-putting. It would look basically identical to this, much prettier, IMO. Multus 02:51, 4 November 2011 (EDT)

Also, would it be OK if I made something like Template:HP, Template:MP, etc. for easier linking the Status and Status ailment page? Especially for status ailments--linking to the correct game is sometimes difficult the way we have it now, so something like Template:Crying EB and Template:Crying M3 etc. Multus 02:58, 4 November 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, that sounds fine. Go for it. →Tinā δ 12:16, 4 November 2011 (EDT)
OK, thanks. Don't have time to finish the infobox ones, so they'll have to wait, the {{if: blah blah blah doesn't like to cooperate all the time... Multus 15:25, 4 November 2011 (EDT)

Equippable Item Template

I'm working on the List of equippable items in Mother 3, but the generic item list template isn't quite right for it. Does this require a new template, or can the current one be tweaked to work for this without messing it up for non-equippable items? I'm thinking that the "Additional effects" column should be made thinner, making room for a "Usable by" column with character sprites like what was done here...It's clear that I have a lot to learn about template-making. AquaAzure 14:53, 14 January 2012 (EST)

List of equippable items in Mother 3 should be a disambiguation page, a-la List of equippable items in Mother. The additional effects column is rename-able if you want to go that route, though, when we get to that. Multus 15:09, 14 January 2012 (EST)
Okay, but what about equippable items that also have additional effects (e.g. Knit Sweater, Flame Pendant)? Wouldn't they need that extra column? AquaAzure 15:25, 14 January 2012 (EST)
Honestly, I don't think a "Usable by" column is needed. What I think we should do is something like Bandana, (hasn't been adapted to the new system) where we list exceptions, rather than listing off all characters that can use it. Multus 15:31, 14 January 2012 (EST)

So, what's up with the infoboxes?

Did some random page checking and noticed that all pages with an infobox now look more or less like this. It appears that way in IE, Chrome and FF, so I doubt that it's browser-related. Did I just miss out on the feng shuiing of the layout, or is it a genuine error? Sun Braid (talk) 18:14, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

Error. I think Tacopill accidentally bumped something during his recent tweaks. Miles (talk) 18:57, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

About the spam

Disabling new page creation by new users looks like it'll be the best we can do for now. There's only so much updating the blacklist can do, and we won't be able to investigate a new spam filter for account creation for a while. :T But I suppose it's better than nothing. Man, do I feel really bad that this place has been just falling apart lately, though. Templates are still sort of broken and all that's left in the recent changes is an edit or two and deleting/blocking spambots. Kind of depressing. →Tinā δ 13:28, 1 June 2012 (EDT)

Let's not let it get us down. We have a bunch of things we can still work on in spite of the spam and template issues. That to-do list won't finish itself! Miles (talk) 17:12, 1 June 2012 (EDT)
Of course it won't bring us down~! Honestly, we don't get that many editors, so I don't think a new page block would effect much. As long as we can confirm a user, I think that's the best way. Oh, and I should be less dead starting next week since school's out, so I can get to work, too. Until then, o/ Multus (talk) 01:36, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

Can we resolve these already?

What's wrong with the infoboxes? Why isn't the spam filter functioning? If we want this place presentable, we need to figure those issues out, ASAP. Miles (talk) 00:06, 11 August 2012 (EDT)

My fault. My weekdays have become hectic. I have received an idea from a fellow webmaster and will try it out now. Tacopill (talk) 12:13, 11 August 2012 (EDT)
Template:Character infobox and Template:PSI infobox are laid out differently than the other infoboxes (roundy template rather than roundy class); anyone know how to fix them? I think the rest of the infobox style ones have been fixed. The same issue persists for other templates, like the stub ones. Miles (talk) 18:53, 11 August 2012 (EDT)
class="right" and class="center" should help fix them. Tacopill (talk) 19:04, 11 August 2012 (EDT)
Okay, I think all the templates should be fixed. If any are still broken, they should be reported. Miles (talk) 22:51, 11 August 2012 (EDT)
Sounds good. Thank you for all your help and work. Tacopill (talk) 23:08, 11 August 2012 (EDT).

Tacopill, I think account creation needs to stay off until we fix the spam filter. Ugh. Miles (talk) 17:35, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Alright. I will switch it back off. Tacopill (talk) 21:11, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

About Mother 1

I was working on some enemy articles a few months ago, using my then-current playthrough experience to expand the articles (e.g. Nancy uses an HP-to-1 spell; Dust Balls, of all things, explode), and stopped at the Mook before all my changes were reverted. I'm starting again with the Dragon. Anyways, I found a resource that lists the enemy's actions, and from what I've seen so far on my EB Zero playthrough, it seems fairly accurate. This is the link to it: [1] Hopefully, this will speed up the expansion of the Mother 1 enemy articles. Opinionated (talk) 00:22, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Wow, that's a great find! Thanks! We can get going on that any time, then. Miles (talk) 01:53, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

What's the best way to find out about all item listings for Mother 3?

I'm interested in filling in most, if not all the blanks in item locations and costs, if any, on the Mother 3 Item List. I've noticed that it's been mostly empty, and most people using the fan translation don't really know where to find things easily. I've found nothing online, and I decided to try helping.

In short, is there anywhere or anything that can help me find out where to find everything? Thieverpedia (talk) 19:19, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

[2] is one good resource (it is missing some information about the items themselves, such as hidden resistances on certain equipment, but for locations it usually has all the info) BB Gang Zombie (talk) 16:51, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

I'll try to complete the consumables section in my spare time, but it could take a bit to compile everything. Is this acceptable? Thieverpedia (talk) 04:37, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

No rush, better done slowly and accurately than a rush job anyway; actually it's mostly just great it's being done at all because I haven't had the time to do it myself. BB Gang Zombie (talk) 20:39, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Hit a little snag while editing. I can't seem to find out how to make a scrollbar, and the Help:Editing page doesn't tell how to do so. There's a massive list of how to get beef jerky, and I don't think a massive list cluttering up a single space would look nice. Thieverpedia (talk) 01:59, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Never mind. Through a little trial & error, I've figured it out. Just one step closer to a complete page! Thieverpedia (talk) 02:02, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
List of recovery items in Mother 3 Has been fully compiled and manually edited to perfection by myself. My fingers hurt, but it's well worth helping all those Mother fans! Now to get the rest of the Mother 3 pages, and get a Wii U so I can play a little Mother 2 on VC :3 Thieverpedia (talk) 04:09, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Certain Mother 2 pages incomplete

Many of the Item Listings for Mother 2 are incomplete. I'd fill them in, but I've yet to actually play the game and find all the items hidden away that the internet doesn't mention. Any chance of getting a volunteer? Thieverpedia (talk) 17:24, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

I'm willing to give it a try. Lord Grammaticus (talk) 23:23, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

Lovely. Don't forget to savor the witty humor while you play the game! Thieverpedia (talk) 19:42, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

I've played and beaten the game at least twice. :B Not to say I can't enjoy it again! Lord Grammaticus (talk) 11:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

How's the editing going along? I do hope you can finish the small amount of pages EarthBound has left to complete. Speaking of which, I need to get to the Mother 3 enemy pages. Thieverpedia (talk) 00:03, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Max Stats for Mother 1

Salutations y'all! I noticed that there are currently no listings for the maximum statistics of characters in M1. I have screen shots of Ninten, Lloyd, and Ana at level 99, but I'm slightly hesitant to add the information to their respective pages without community approval. The reason for this is because the way stat growth works is nearly identical to Dragon Quest III, in that they have ranges rather than fixed end-points. That being said, the info could be presented just as a ballpark range rather than a hard fact, and give readers an inkling to where the kids will be around at that level. So, what do you guys think? (Follower of Light (talk) 21:32, 20 February 2015 (UTC))

Layout and skins

Hello! I'm Lake(limbo) and I recently joined Grifkuba's Wiki Division Team. Even though my account is just a few days old, I follow WikiBound since ~2016 and, unfortunately, it's pretty hard to browse the site on mobile. Monobook is an old skin with a lot of deprecated code, but WikiBound has Timeless installed as well. I can customize Timeless to get rid of the right sidebar and add a Mother series theming. Another thing I could also do is rearrange the layout of the pages themselves, using newer and better CSS settings to adapt to each screen size and make the UX considerably better. What do you think about it? :) —Lakelimbo (talk) 01:51, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
